Heritage restoration & Seismic strengthening

Consultants: studio pacific architecture, dunning thornton

This Grade One Heritage Listed building was the focus of a complex and prestigious project.

The building was relocated a short distance up Buckle St to make way for the Arras Tunnel and the Pukeahu National War Memorial Park which opened 29 September 2014 .

Our role in the project included:

  • Removal and reinstatement of all the heritage features,

  • Strengthening the building including installation of a new structural steel sub-floor to carry the load out to the base isolated perimeter structure, and

  • Complete restoration of the interior and exterior using traditional materials.

Read more about the history of the creche and the buildings’ move in 2014 here.

See the timelapse video showing the three phases of the move.
